Once a young person is invested as a Beaver Scout it's time for them to really get stuck into having fun and earning badges. Beaver Scouts should attempt to earn as many of the following before moving onto Cub Scouts:
Challenge Badges
The requirements for the Outdoor, Discovery and Friendship Challenge Badges are included within the week to week activities in which Beaver Scouts take part. If they turn up on a regular basis, Beavers will earn the Challenge Badges without realising it!
Activity Badges
There are five Activity Badges available to Beaver Scouts: Animal Friend, Creative, Experiment, Explore and Faith. Activity Badges may be completed as part of an organised activity for all Beavers in the Colony, but it is also quite acceptable for a Beaver Scout to work on an Activity Badge by themselves at home. Should the latter be the case, Beavers will be expected to bring in the results of their badge work to a 'show and tell' with the other members of the Colony.
Staged Activity Badges
The four Staged Activity Badges (Information Technology, Musician, Nights Away and Swimming) are for all members of the Scout Group from the age of six to eighteen: Beaver Scouts would normally be expected to aim for Stage One of these badges, but if they are particularly good at one of the activities are more than welcome to attempt the higher stages.
The Chief Scout's Bronze Award
The Chief Scout's Bronze Award is the highest award available to Beaver Scouts and earning it is considered highly commendable. A Beaver Scout must have completed the Outdoor Challenge with either the Discovery or Friendship Challenge, plus successfuly complete an additional personal challenge agreed with the Beaver Scout Leader.
The Moving On Award
When they are nearing their eighth birthday, Beaver Scouts should start to work on the Moving On Award. This badge helps Beavers to meet the members and adults in the Cub Section, and learn about the activities in which the Cub Scout Pack takes part, in preparation for their transfer from Beavers to Cubs and investiture as a Cub Scout as soon as they are eight.
