Scout Games: Long Ball

Games Equipment: A foam football and piece of chalk

Use the piece of chalk to draw a line across each end of the hall to make ‘creases’ as in cricket, leaving room for Scouts to stand behind. Select one Patrol as the batting team who stand behind the line at one end of the hall, while the remaining Patrol(s) take up fielding positions within the central area of the hall and select a bowler.

The bowler bowls the football underarm to the first batter who, using just their hand, hits the ball anywhere in the hall. He or she then attempts to run to the other end of the hall and back again.

The fielders attempt to get the batter out by either catching the ball when it is hit, or by hitting the batter anywhere on the body with the football whilst the batter is running between the creases. If the batter does not feel confident about making it back without being hit they may stay at the far end of the hall behind the line and attempt to complete their run the next time the bowler bowls the ball.
A run is only scored when the batter has returned to the batting crease. When there are no more batters left the Patrols change around.
